Quality Support in Safe Hands

Former Olympic Silver Medallist

As the school summer holidays begin and thousands of children head to their local leisure centre, former Olympic silver medallist and mum, Gail Emms, is encouraging parents to check that their local facilities are part of Sport England's quality scheme, Quest.
Quest is the UK-wide quality scheme which ensures that leisure centres meet a number of standards including health and safety, child protection, lifeguarding and cleanliness of pool water. Similar to Ofsted for schools, Quest rates leisure centres and health clubs according to their overall performance.
Gail said: "As a mum myself I know that safety is parents' number one concern. With many of our kids heading down to their local swimming pool or summer camp at their nearby leisure centre we are asking parents to do the 'Quest check' which will give them peace of mind that their leisure centre is committed to safety and quality."
Every leisure centre that undertakes Quest has to complete a rigorous one-day assessment across all areas of operation, carried out by an experienced leisure industry professional, all with senior manager positions, as well as receive a mystery visit. Centres striving for a more advanced Quest accreditation have to complete further assessments and receive two mystery visits, with one being from a person who works outside the leisure industry.
Quest's operations director, Caroline Constantine, adds: "As well as being an assurance that your kids are in safe hands, Quest means that your local leisure centre is working hard to continually improve its offering and services."
To check that your local leisure centre is Quest accredited, look out for the Quest sign or ask the centre manager.
Quest is the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure. It is a tool for continuous improvement, designed primarily for the management of leisure facilities and leisure development. Quest defines industry standards and good practice and encourages their on-going development and delivery within a customer focused management framework. The National Benchmarking Service (NBS) provides critical data on the performance of your leisure facility. Leisure-net Solutions, in partnership with Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC) at Sheffield Hallam University, work on behalf of Sport England to provide a seamless, rigorous and valuable collection and analysis of participation, financial and customer satisfaction data.
